VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
IN COASTAL CLEANUP

Marine RUBBISH REMAINS a pervasive
problem that threatens ocean health

Coastweek - - Will you be one of them ? This September, people around the world will spend a day at the beach removing trash and debris and demonstrating their commitment to clean oceans and waterways.

Hundreds of thousands of people will descend on beaches, lakes and streams all the over the world to clean trash and debris - on land and under the water.

Volunteers of all ages and from every continent will form the largest one-day volunteer event on behalf of clean oceans and waterways - the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC)

These volunteers may or may not know that the oceans provide much of the food we eat, the oxygen we breathe, or that they are home to 97 per cent of all living matter.

But, like you, they treasure the oceans and all the life that they hold.

And they value the ICC as an opportunity to give something back to the oceans.

Littering and ocean dumping are age-old problems.

Today, synthetic, durable elements like plastics are the primary substances in trash.

These items stay intact for centuries and many are buoyant allowing them to travel in currents for thousands of miles, endangering ocean ecosystems and wildlife along the way.

Coastweek - - Volunteers at
Public Beach.

Marine debris is a pervasive problem that threatens ocean health.

Yet all marine debris can be traced back to a single source - people.

and-based trash is carried by wind and water from far inland, ending up in the oceans.

As a result, they have never considered the harm that it might cause in the ocean environment.

The Ocean Conservancy invites you to join these volunteers - including school and community groups, scout troops, families, dive clubs, environmental groups and concerned individuals for this one-day event.

Anyone can participate in the ICC; it doesn't require special skills or knowledge - just the desire to further the cause of clean oceans and waterways..
