Dr.
Rene Haller
A naturalist, trained in Horticulture, Landscaping and Tropical
Agronomy. In 1959 he became Manager of the ‘Garden and
Agriculture Department’ of the ‘Bamburi Portland Cement Co’
near Mombasa. In this role he rehabilitated the former
limestone quarries and create a tropical paradise. In 1982
he became Managing Director of Baobab Farm Ltd, where he managed
to demonstrate the productivity of rehabilitated landscape in
terms of food, tourism, community schemes and employment. In
1987 he was awarded the prestigious Global 500 Roll of Honour by
the United Nations, for his ‘outstanding environmental
achievements’ and in 1991 the prestigious Swiss Brandenberger
Prize. In April 2003 he was appointed to the board of the Kenya
Wildlife Service.

Sabine Baer
Graduated from the University of Berne
(Switzerland)
in Biology,
having specialised in Integrated Aquaculture and Acquatic Botany.
Ms Baer joined Baobab Farm as a research biologist in 1988. She is
now responsible for the quarry rehabilitation scheme, the
Forest ecosystem and wildlife utilisation for the Haller Park. She
continues to research and is a member of
the Shimba Hills Support group and is involved in education and
training programmes.

Robert Brenneisen
A Swiss citizen, he provides consultancy services to both
the government and private sector in Kenya. During a
45 year career in the Cement industry he worked in Nigeria,
Venezuela and Kenya. In 1994 he retired as managing
director of Bamburi Cement Co after thirty years of service.
He is currently chairman of Athi Railroad company and
Chairman of Satao Camps which operate in Tsavo. He is holder
of the Moran Award Of the order of the burning spear for services
rendered to the nation.

Paul Kiambo
Recently retired from the legal profession. After practising
as a lawyer in Nairobi for 25 years, he returned to Mombasa.
He has since initiated many community conservation projects both
on the South Coast and on Mount Kenya. He is very keen on
ensuring the younger generation are involved in a practical way in
conservation programmes and is actively involved in youth work. He
has sponsored outdoor programmes which
focus on teaching teenagers social, cultural and environmental
responsibility.

Louise Piper
Now based in the UK, Louise grew up in Africa, where her
father worked for 35 years. After graduating with a law
degree from Cambridge, she spent nearly 20 years working as an
investment banker in London, New York and Asia. She
came across Rene Haller's work, through his son - a fellow
banker - and decided to help promote it. She also is a
trustee of the Haller
Foundation based in the UK which raises money for projects initiated by the Baobab
Trust and projects in other areas which share the Haller Principles.

Didier Tressarieu
Employed by Lafarge, Didier Tressarieu was the Managing Director
of Bamburi Cement Ltd. until September 2005 where he has taken
responsibility of Lafarge operations in Japan.
